Jets Fight With Coach - Robert Saleh's first year at the helm of the New York Jets has him at the top of an important NFL statistical category.

Because fourth downs are more prevalent than in today's NFL, ESPN's Statistics and Information Department ranked the league's 32 coaches in terms of day-to-day management. The rankings were determined using data collected from the last five seasons, taking into account the following metrics:

With all of these factors in mind, Saleh ranks fourth among league coaches in effective fourth down management. Saleh is the best among first basemen (Philadelphia's Nick Sirianni is sixth) and trails only Kliff Kingsbury, Matt LaFleur and John Harbaugh.

Saleh may benefit from a smaller sample size, but his Jets lead the league in "unfortunate fourth-down error rate" at 18.8 percent. He also gave up just 18.4 percent of his game-winning chances via fourth-down errors, topping the Eagles (10.2 percent).

It's a metric that ESPN Jets correspondent Rich Cimini noted as Gang Green's struggling season got off to a bad start thanks to a fourth-and-four in the opener against Carolina. Tevin Coleman intercepted a Panthers touchdown before the first down and the Jets were now 3-8.

At more traditional positions, the Jets are 21st in conversion rate at 46 percent (7 of 15). Their 15 attempts are tied with Miami for eighth in the league

New York returns to action Sunday afternoon against the Philadelphia Eagles (1 p.m. ET, CBS) at MetLife Stadium.
